Delibird
Nature: Adamant, Jolly
Item: Focus Sash, Choice Band
Ability: Hustle
Move set:
- Arial Ace
- Ice Shard / Ice Punch
- Seed Bomb
- Brick Break / Focus Punch
There are only three reasons why you should ever even consider using the frail and non-threatening snow chicken that is Delibird: either you love using the most obscure (for good reason) NU Pokémon possible to beat your opponent, you’re forming a Christmas theme team, or you just really, really like Delibirds. But regardless of why, if you do in fact find yourself using this Santa bird, above is a move set you’ll definitely want to try.
First off, as you’ve probably noticed, Delibird’s stats are horrible, with the slight exception of speed. Fortunately, you have the ability Hustle at your disposal, which boosts Delibird’s damage output from the physical side. However, this gift (or should I say present) does not come without a price, as your accuracy is reduced by 20. This means moves which normally hit 100% of the time, will only hit their mark 80% of the time. This makes Arial Ace a prime option, since it can never miss. Next, as an ice s.t.a.b attack, either Ice Punch or Ice Shard is usable; both have their uses, although Ice Shard may come in handy more often should you choose adamant as Delibird’s nature. Then there’s Seed Bomb for water / ground types, like Gastrodon, and your choice of fighting moves for steel types who wall endlessly wall you otherwise. Go with Focus Punch if you think you can predict a switch (good luck with that, Delibird won’t be scaring many opponents into a switch) or non-attacking moves. Brick Break is the safer, less powerful option if you don’t want to take the risk. Other options which weren’t mentioned, but could still be decent alternatives include Thief, Fake Out, Sky Attack, and Present. Thief to steal an item before you perish, Fake Out for more priority and a (light) free hit, Sky Attack if you’re feel like making Delibird into a “killing machine” (with power herb, of course), and Present for laughs, and the suspense of not knowing whether you’ll heal your opponent, or “hurt” them.
