Pokemon Guides Empty IV Guide by Z-man

Post by Ben Mon Aug 01, 2011 10:12 am

    IV Guide

IVs, or Individual Values, are, simply put, invisable numbers that effect how a pokemon grows in terms of stats. These numbers range from 0 to 31, and each of your pokemon's stats is assigned one number in that range. For example, a pokemon's IVs could look like this:

    HP: 30 IVs
    Attack: 23 IVs
    Defense: 19 IVs
    Special Attack: 27 IVs
    Special Defense: 9 IVs
    Speed: 31 IVs

In this example, the Speed stat is a perfect 31, allowing the pokemon's speed to reach its maximum potential. This is because the higher the IV number, the higher the stat its assigned to can become. On the other hand, having a Special Defense IV of only 9 isn't going to be helping that stat very much, since this IV is low.

Got that so far? Good, here's a more advanced stat example, this time with the actual stats included, along with there corresponding IVs. We'll use Glalie as an example since all of it's base stats are 80, or in other words, they all have equal potential:

    Glalie:

    HP Base Stat: N/A
    HP IV: N/A

    Attack Base Stat: 100
    Attack IV: 31

    Defense Base Stat: 99
    Defense IV: 30

    Special Attack Base Stat: 72
    Special Attack IV: 2

    Special Defense Base Stat: 97
    Special Defense IV: 28

    Speed Base Stat: 100
    Speed IV: 31

Now, for the sake of the lesson, lets assume that this Glalie has nuetral (Docile) nature that wont influence it's stat growth in any way, and lets also assume that it hasn't been EV trained at all. Since there are no other variables that will effect how Glalie's stats will grow besides it's IVs, and because all of Glalie's base stats are equal, you should be able to see the relationship between it's base stats and IVs. In this scenario, 100 is the maximum for each stat, and as we learned, 31 is the maximum for an IV.
(HP was left out because it relates to base stats differently than the other 5 stats, meaning it doesn't apply here)
